If you’re an artist, writer, aspiring creative, art or landscape lover, then please join us for a 3-day creative dive into the hidden Australian landscape, guided by renowned artist, Julianne Ross Allcorn.

OVERVIEW

This fun and wonderfully informative workshop is designed for artists of all levels – from accomplished to beginners – who wish to deepen their connection to the wild Australian landscape through drawing and watercolour painting, all in a unique and inspiring setting.

Under the expert guidance of Julianne Ross Allcorn, we will venture outdoors to immerse ourselves in the bush and be wrapped in the scents, sounds and colours of nature. Using all our senses, we’ll explore the unique beauty of the Australian landscape surrounding us, learning to translate our observations into expressive artworks. The course will cover en plein air painting and drawing, still life studies and life drawing, providing a comprehensive experience for artistic growth.

ABOUT JULIANNE ROSS ALLCORN

Julianne Ross Allcorn is a highly accomplished practicing artist and art teacher of over 20 years. Her work is held in many collections and has been displayed in numerous group and solo exhibitions. Using mixed media on timber or paper, her Australian works are inspired by the flora and fauna around the Burralong Valley and Lower Hunter where she has a studio, as well as the bushland surroundings of her garden studio in Roseville. She has been a three-time finalist for the Wynne Prize and in 2020 she was awarded the Trustee’s Watercolour Prize for her work Mollitium 2. In 2021 she was also a finalist in the Archibald Prize. INTRODUCTION TO THE AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPE

– Understanding the unique features of the Australian landscape
– Exploring the flora and fauna that characterise the region
– Analysing the play of light and shadow in the Australian environment

PLEIN AIR PAINTING

– Setting up a plein air painting kit
– Techniques for quick sketches and capturing the essence of a scene
– Selecting and framing a composition in the outdoors
– Overcoming challenges of changing light and weather

STILL LIFE STUDIES

– Foraging, collecting and arranging found natural objects from the bush for still life setups
– Experimenting with different compositions and lighting
– Developing observational skills and attention to detail

LIFE DRAWING

– Gestural drawing and capturing poses in an indoor setting
– Integrating the human form with the natural landscape
– Understanding the relationship between the figure and their environment.

What’s included in the workshop

This is a three-day workshop that includes our incredible teacher Julianne Ross Allcorn, delicious seasonal food throughout each day, all model fees and a special workshop gift bag for each participant.

What to bring to the workshop

Participants are required to bring their own drawing and watercolour supplies. We’ll provide you with a recommended materials list upon registration.

This workshop is suitable for:

For artists, writers, aspiring creatives, art and landscape lovers. All levels of artists and creatives from beginners to advanced, including beginners who have a yearning to learn more about watercolour and drawing techniques. No prior experience necessary.

WHEN: Friday 17th, Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th of May 2024
VENUE: Southern Wild Co Shedquarters, near Rockley NSW
TIMES: 9:30am–4.30pm each day.
INCLUDES: Delicious seaonal food throughout each day, all model fees PLUS an exclusive participant gift bag to take away.
COST: $750 per person (incl. gst) for all three days.
CANCELLATION POLICY
We understand that circumstances can change and we’d like to be as flexible as possible. Should you need to cancel and are unable to pass your ticket on, we will offer up the resale of your ticket. In the event that it sells, we will gladly refund your ticket minus a 3% handling fee. Unfortunately we are unable to refund your ticket if it does not resell. Thank you so much for understanding.

The workshop will be held at the Southern Wild Co Shedquarters which is located between Oberon and Bathurst in NSW with the following (approx.) travel times:
